This method is similar to fillings but these fillings are made from ceramics, inlays and onlays are two methods that are not only restoring your tooth but also gives it more strength that it had before, this is available to our patients at Modern Dental Clinic in Dubai (UAE).

The procedure is called an “inlay” when the material is bonded within the center of a tooth. Conversely, the procedure is called an “onlay” when the extent of the damage requires inclusion of one or more cusps (points) of the tooth or full coverage of the biting surface.

The advantages of this dental procedure include:

  1. Perfect fit: since it is tailor made to your tooth structure
  2. No discoloring: materials that inlays and onlays use are unlikely to discolor over time
  3. Restoration: it restores tooth structure and protects the tooth from decay and cavities
  4. Strength: it gives your teeth much more strength
  5. Easy tooth cleaning: material used does not shrink or expand and inlays or onlays will stay on, because they are perfectly fitted on your tooth

Inlays and onlays are known as indirect fillings because unlike a standard filling that is done in a dentist's office, both are made in a laboratory from ceramic resin and cemented or bonded to the surface of the tooth during a second visit to the dentist. And unlike standard fillings, inlays and onlays do not weaken the tooth structure, but actually strengthen it. After the procedure the tooth can bear up to 50 - 75% more chewing force.

Inlays and onlays are extremely stable restorations. Our dentist will check all margins to make sure a smooth fit with tight adjacent contacts. Our dentist will also check your bite to ensure that there are no occlusion-related problems affecting the margins of the restoration. Once fitted, the inlay or onlay is bonded onto the tooth and the margins are polished.

Teeth with inlays and onlays should receive the same type of oral hygiene as natural teeth, including daily brushing and flossing and regular dental examinations and visits to the dentist.

Because of their strength, durability, and aesthetic quality, porcelain inlays and onlays are excellent solutions for larger cases of tooth decay. They will give you confidence for your teeth and for your smile.
